San Francisco Orchid Society

Welcome! The San Francisco Orchid Society is returning to the HALL of FLOWERS in Golden Gate Park with a new layout and more displays. We need lots of volunteers for a variety of positions. Help us out and have fun at the same time. If you volunteer for a shift, you will get a badge that gives you unlimited entry to the show for that day. You can sign up at: https://signup.com/go/UUsgCHB, or just click the "I want to help" button on this page.

We'll have lots of vendors this year and great displays. Please ONLY sign up for yourself. If you have a friend or relative who would like to volunteer, please have him/her sign up separately (This facilitates our printing of name badges for all volunteers).

The following volunteer opportunities are available, and each shift is about three hours.

Ticket Sales: A mostly sit down job selling tickets and registering pre-sold tickets. There will also be a separate COVID vaccination check area.

Security:
There are three types of jobs:
1) Sitting/Standing in the area between the sales and vendor area. Making sure that plants purchased in the sales area do not go into display area. Directing people to store them at the Plant Hotel, or directing them to the exits.
2) Standing/sitting at the exits and checking plants purchased for proof of sale dots. People with plants without dots are directed back to the vendor to get dots.
3) Walking around the display area keeping an eye on the plants. Asking people not to touch the plants. If there is a problem, you can contact the head of security for help. (Head of security will help with any issues that might come up).

Plant Hotel:
Accepting plants from people who are checking them in for safekeeping, and issuing redemption tickets. Placing the plants in a box, and storing the box on shelves. Retrieving plants from shelves in exchange for their ticket. The job involves standing, walking, and some lifting.

Front Display Setup:
Help create our beautiful front entry display! Arranging orchids and other plants, placing moss, lighting, and other materials. Setup is on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Front Display Takedown:
After the show is over on Sunday, we need a few stalwart volunteers to help disassemble and load out the plants and other materials used in the display. Many of the plants are sold immediately after the show, so this is a good opportunity to pick up some nice plants at reasonable prices!

Please sign up for a shift (or two or three...). There's a wide range of positions you can fill to match your skills and physical abilities. It's fun and it's easy! You’ll have opportunities to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts who would just love to share their orchid experiences and knowledge with you. You can meet and chat with orchid vendors and other people behind the scenes. Best of all is that you’ll have a sense of accomplishment and pride that you’ve helped produce the largest orchid show in the country!
