In its 29th year in 2018, Sunbury River Festival welcomes an estimated 10,000+ visitors to Sunbury for a weekend celebration of family fun, food and of course, the beautiful Susquehanna River.

Sunbury River Festival kicks off Thursday evening with The Valley’s Got Talent, our hometown talent competition, and carries through the weekend with live music, the Car Cruise-In, Chalk the Walk, Cardboard Boat Regatta and a variety of food and craft vendors plus activities for the entire family. We close the festival on Saturday evening at the Riverfront Amphitheater with music, food and FIREWORKS!

River Festival Volunteer Desciptions:

Pre-Event Planning Volunteer: These volunteers will work prior to the event primarily for pre-event advertising, marketing and community outreach. Will meet monthly, increasing to weekly as the event nears, at a location in Downtown Sunbury.

Event Floater: Assignments will vary from shift to shift. Assignments will be matched with volunteer talents and interests as much as possible. Special requirements depend on nature of task, but generally involve some walking, so wear comfy, closed toe shoes.

Set Up: Help set up the entire venue. Check-in at Volunteer headquarters or if outside of headquarter hours, the location will be communicated to you at a date closer to the Festival. Hang signs, put up barricades/tents/tables/chairs/etc. throughout festival area. Assorted lifting and moving. Bring work gloves if you have them. Wear good shoes and check the weather report (sunscreen or rain gear? Hot or cold?) before you leave your house!

Tear Down: Meet at Volunteer Headquarters for your assignment location. Tear-Down crew will be broken into small groups. Move/dismantle tents, chairs, barricades, take down signs, empty trash cans, assist with dismantling some sound/stage equipment. Bring work gloves if you have them. Wear good shoes and check the weather report (Sunscreen or rain gear? Hot or cold?) before you leave your house!

Green Team: Help keep the River festival green! Trash and recycling, plus more. Keep the trash and recycling containers from overflowing and pick up any litter throughout the festival.

Traffic Control: Redirect vehicles around festival. Direct visitors towards parking. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to stand for multiple hours.

Vendor Liaison: Help direct vendors during setup. Make sure vendors are in their assigned locations. Direct setup volunteers in moving equipment.

Description

Sunbury's Revitalization, Inc. is involved in a plethora of Sunbury-based events and projects. This includes hosting Sunbury River Festival, the Lake Augusta Wine & Brew Festival, the Hometown Veteran Banners program, and much more!
Additionally, neighborhood organizations such as the Hill Neighborhood Council and SPARC are committees of SRI and implement a number of additional initiatives to better our city.
