FAQ

Weaving Love has taken on a project that is, most likely, never ending. We take used plastic bags (almost any type of plastic bag), cut them in to strips, use a slipknot to connect the strips and make plarn (plastic yarn), and then crochet that in to a sleeping mat that is appx 3x6 ft, plus a handle and strap. The whole process is time consuming. Most of the members do one, sometimes two, steps of the process and pass those materials on. So, for example, someone could collect bags and flatten them, someone could cut those bags into strips, someone could connect those strips into plarn, and then someone else could take that plarn and crochet the mat. People find that they prefer to do some steps more than others. It really does take a lot of helping hands to make these mats, so we try to hold monthly meetings in various locations where people can meet up to exchange their materials with the next person to continue with the next step. The majority of the work is done at home in your own free time. A lot of people will work on this project while watching tv in the evening.

It's pretty amazing when you see a mat come together after all the passing of materials.
