The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Lord & Schryver propagation volunteers help grow plants for our annual display beds as well as replacement shrubs. Activities include making cuttings, air-layering, sowing seeds, caring for seedlings, potting up, and watering. Scheduling is flexible for this role; volunteers plan their schedule with the Garden Manager. These volunteers are busiest February to June growing annuals. Additional help is needed periodically in the summer and early fall for woody plant propagation. Detail oriented volunteers who would like to help at Gaiety Hollow, but have limited availability, are good candidates for this opportunity. All volunteers must attend an orientation session. Training will be provided.
