Time with Casper
Children spending time with one of our rabbits Casper, while at our barn in Portola Valley.

We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate the interaction between our support animals and clients during programs. We use horses and other gentle farm animals in therapeutic programs for children in need. These could be children with special needs, those facing life threatening illnesses or facing challenging family situations such as homelessness, neglect, or domestic violence. An example of what you would do while volunteering could be helping a child feed a cracker to one of our goats, hold a bunny for the children to pet, or be a side walker next to a child on a horse.

Whether you'd like to go with us onsite to a client location such as Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto, or meet us at our barn in Portola Valley for a program like our HorseBuddies sessions, once signed up to be a volunteer, our Shiftboard will alert you via email to any new program we need volunteers for, and you sign up to participate only in the ones that interest you and fit your schedule. Most programs last 60-90 minutes and there is no commitment for the number of hours or programs that you need to sign up for. The majority of our programs that we need volunteers for take place Monday - Friday during typical business hours.

Mission Statement

Inspired by the comforting power of animals, Jasper Ridge Farm provides a special experience for people in need.

Description

We are dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties who are facing physical and emotional challenges. Our goal is to bring unique experiences to these people through therapeutic interaction with gentle farm animals.

Our programs are offered free of charge to children facing life-threatening illness, those living with special needs, and for children or adults facing challenging family situations such as homelessness, neglect, or domestic violence. We also focus on helping youth struggling with mental health issues and have programs for Veterans, senior citizens, and inmates.

Animals provide love and unconditional acceptance. Our group of support animals, many of whom have been rescued, have endless love and kindness to give and we believe interacting with them provides comfort for people in need.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have switched the majority of our programming to be virtual.
