A JOYFUL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Would you like to spread your enthusiasm and improve the lives of Montreal families?
Join MINIBIBLIOplus : be part of Fraser Hickson’s exciting project todevelop literacy skills among children aged 0-5.
This project was created to address the need to promote literacy to children, specifically in the Côte-des-Neiges borough. The main goals are to get children excited about reading, get parents involved, and develop a culture of literacy in CDN.
This project will take place beginning in January 2018 in day care and community centers. Each location will have a weekly animated story time. We are looking for volunteers to animate these story time activities. Training on how to read to children will be provided.
Responsibilities:
- Spend 2-3 hours a week animating an activity and reading to children
- Attend 1 or more training sessions on how to read to children
- Share feedback on progress/success of activities
- May assist with some administrative or logistical duties related to the program
Requirements:
- A love for books and reading, and a desire to improve lives
- Bilingualism preferred (English and French)
- Experience working with children is helpful
- Availability for approximately 2-3 hours a week

Mission Statement
Fraser Hickson is an independent library serving Quebecers since 1885. Our Mission is to raise literacy levels by working with partners to bring books to life starting with the very young and those who need them the most.
Description
We offer a free private mini library service to our partner organizations, giving access to our collection, support and early literacy tools. We curate books that allow educators, parents and volunteers the opportunity to instill in children the desire to read.
A MINIBIBLIO includes books selected from our collection, a training session on tracking, replenishment of materials selected with a librarian's assistance, and partner promotion.
The Early Literacy Component includes weekly reading activity by trained volunteers, early literacy workshop for parents, early literacy toolkit.
