Looking for a volunteer opportunity that can work around work, life, and school commitments? Consider becoming an evening activities cart volunteer at Sloan's Lake Rehabilitation! Imagine this: it's your night to come volunteer at Sloan's Lake. You arrive at 6:30pm, sign in at the front desk, and head upstairs to get your badge and activities cart. As usual, the cart is loaded with games, puzzles, books, magazines, and other items that might of interest to the elderly patients that call Sloan's Lake home for the duration of their physical/occupational therapy and recovery. You take the cart, swing by the nurses station to say hi, then start your rounds, going room to room and offering patients a diversion from your cart as well as a little friendly conversation. You visit one lady that is especially chatty, so you spend about 20 minutes in her room talking with her, and hear all about her experiences as one of the first female judges in the state of Colorado. With a smile on your face, you continue your rounds until about 8pm. You didn't make it to every single patient room, but you managed to visit quite a few people tonight. You go home knowing that you brought some human interaction, compassion, and conversation to seniors during a tough time in their lives. That feels good.
