Every Tuesday and Thursday, starting February 15 until late May, we will be running bookmaking & storytelling field trips for elementary school students at our writing center in Oakland. The field trips involve a tour of our center, a collaborative storytelling exercise, and finally every child goes home with their own book that is professionally illustrated & includes their own unique ending.
Every week, we need about four volunteers, who each help with different tasks. We need one illustrator, someone to act as our Prime Minister, one typist, and then one or more people to help us make books & to help the students find the bathroom or pass out materials etc. Costumes are encouraged.
More opportunities with Chapter 510
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About Chapter 510
Location:
546 9th Street, Oakland, CA 94607, US
Mission Statement
Chapter 510 is a made-in-Oakland youth writing, bookmaking & publishing center. Our teaching artists and volunteers work side by side with educators to provide a safe space and supportive community so Black, brown, and queer youth ages 8-19 can bravely write.
Description
Founded by parents, educators, writers, and youth-serving organizations, Chapter 510 shares a vision for Oakland as a place where children are seen and their voices are valued, where teachers are honored and supported, and where we expand young people’s belief in their own possibilities. At Chapter 510 we believe students and teachers should not have to do it on their own.
