Volunteers are needed to clean, build crate-shelves, catalogue artifacts, and inventory exhibits at the Sights & Sounds Black Cultural Museum.
OBJECTIVE:
Ever since the Curator, Mr. James C. Horton underwent amputation surgery, his museum has been in need of some tender loving care. Volunteers are asked to bring their helping hands and hearts to give the Sights & Sounds Black Cultural Museum a fresh start for 2018. Mr. Horton does not charge a fee for visitors to enter the museum which means he only operates off of donations. This means, we must ask volunteers to pitch in.
TASKS:
- Cleaning - general cleaning: sweeping, dusting, mopping, wiping down counters, carefully dusting figurines, cleaning glass frames, etc.
- Building Crate-Shelves - handy men and women are invited to build display shelves for our displays using milk crates. Milk crates makes it easier for Mr. Horton to transport his mobile exhibits and keep small pieces grouped together.
- Cataloging Artifacts - Filling out worksheets that provide details of each exhibit item and assigning a catalogue number to it. NOTE: We have over 8,000 exhibit artifacts to start cataloging!
- Exhibits Inventory - Annual inventory of the artifacts of each exhibit to determine the best way to present, display and/or preserve each item.
