The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Do you live in the Oakland area? Would you like to serve others, but receive high quality training and develop as a person while you do so? We are recruiting special people who have caring hearts to serve as hospice volunteers in the Oakland-Tekamah area. We regularly have patients residing in their own homes and in the nursing facilities in the area who could use an extra visitor a week or someone who would sit with them as they approach their final hours when the family cannot be there. Volunteers are given indepth training on the hospice philosophy and how to be supportive of a hospice patient and his/her family in this special time. One drive to Omaha is required in order to get the drug screen required of all volunteers - but our TB testing can be done locally. I will bring the training to you - over coffee, lunch - you name it!
