Meal Delivery - Driving Route East Bay

Project Open Hand’s mission is to nourish and engage our community by providing meals with love to the sick and the elderly. Distribution volunteers will help deliver nutritious meals with love - along with a smile and "hello" - to clients in Project Open Hand’s Wellness program.

Volunteers assist with packing out and delivering meals to homebound clients in Alameda County using their personal vehicle. The volunteer driver must be a fully licensed and insured in the state of California and have a good working knowledge of the city streets and/or the ability to read provided maps and directions

Important: Volunteers must adhere to strict social distancing guidelines and follow Project Open Hand’s Drop and Knock Delivery Procedures for Volunteers.

Requirements:

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Proof of negative TB test within the last 9 months
  • Proof of DL and Insurance required
  • Must have a safe and registered vehicle in good working order
  • Must adhere to social distancingguidelines

Time Commitment: Once a week, day flexible, 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Dress Code:

  • Please note that this is an outdoor opportunity, comfortable shoes and layers are encouraged.
  • Project Open Hand asks staff and volunteers to take the additional safety precaution to use a mask or cloth at work to cover their mouth and nose when in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

Mission Statement

Project Open Hand provides food and nourishment to improve the quality of life for the men, women and children it serves. Project Open Hand programs include: meal, grocery and nutrition counseling for people with symptomatic HIV and AIDS; congregate lunch and nutrition education for people over 60 years of age; meal service for homebound and critically ill people under the age of 60. Services are available to eligible clients living in San Francisco and Alameda counties.

Founded in 1985, Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives.

Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco and Oakland, engaging more than 125 volunteers daily to nourish our community.
