ROOTS is the state's largest emergency young adult shelter that is almost exclusively volunteer run, serving people ages 18-25. We are open 365 days a year, with up to 45 guests per night, and provide a place to sleep, warm meals, access to showers, hygiene supplies and clothing, as well as case management and job training services. Volunteers are needed to help with preparing and serving dinner, handing out supplies, and most importantly, building meaningful relationships with the folks who stay here. This is a great chance to make a visible impact in the lives of the people we serve, and be part of a wonderful volunteer community.
Dinner Meal Teams (7:30pm-11pm; any day of the week): These 3 to 5 volunteers come in every night and prepare meals, serve dinner and clean up our kitchen. We encourage our Dinner Meal Team to bring in food that they want to prepare in our kitchen. So, feel free to bring any food that your interest in cooking as well as friends and family over the age of 18. Serving warm meals in our own kitchen every evening is something we find deeply rewarding.
