Want to make a difference in your community? Do you like working with the public? The Red Cross has many wonderful opportunities as a Blood Donor Ambassador volunteer at local blood drives.

Red Cross blood drives happen daily Monday through Saturday in many locations throughout the Rockingham County area of New Hampshire. A blood drive is typically 5 or 6 hours long and is staffed with Red Cross blood collections staff and one or two volunteers. Volunteers either are scheduled for the entire drive or are scheduled for half a drive.

The Blood Donor Ambassador primarily acts as a Reception volunteer. The volunteer greets blood donors as they come into the drive, asks for ID, gets them checked in on an appointment sheet or laptop computer, gives the donor required reading material, and makes out their name tag. These are very easy-to-learn steps and can be mastered with a little coaching from an experienced volunteer or staff member.

A Blood Donor Ambassador can also be a Hospitality volunteer; greeting the blood donors after they have made the donation. A Hospitality Volunteer hands out refreshments and snacks and, most importantly, keeps an eye on the donor should they not feel well from the donation process. The volunteer promptly gets help from the Red Cross staff in this case, and the blood donor is well-taken care of.
