ORGANIZATION: Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre

Culver City

The Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) is looking for volunteers to work their Ebb & Flow Festival on Saturday, February 3, 2018.

"Ebb & Flow: Culver City" is a free, site-specific community festival of local artists at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook on Feb. 3, 2018, which integrates dance, visual arts, and technology to explore our relationship with and impact on the environment.

Curated by Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT), the day-long festival will include site-specific performances by four diverse local artists and student performances by St. Mary's Academy, Loyola Marymount University, and Culver City High School on HDDT's steel Fish sculpture designed by Alex Ward, as well as a performance of FishEyes by HDDT's core company.

The festival will also include free public dance workshops led by HDDT's teaching artists throughout the day, and educational activities led by Culver City environmental organizations, including Culver City Public Works - Environmental Programs and Operations and the Baldwin Hills Greenhouse Internship Program.

Volunteer shifts will run from 10 am - 3 pm and from 3 pm to 8 pm. Volunteers can work just one or two shifts if they so desire.

Mission Statement

Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) creates ephemeral contemporary art experiences in extraordinary places that boldly redefine the relationship between audience and art. Through cultivating innovative collaborations with artists, arts organizations and local communities, HDDT brings meaningful interdisciplinary dance to new audiences throughout Los Angeles and the world.

Description

Initially founded in 1985, HDD is a pioneer in producing interdisciplinary performances. The company develops and rehearses each multi-sensory experience in the site where the work is performed. HDD advances social equity in under-resourced communities by providing opportunities for audience members and students to interact with meaningful spaces, both public and private, that they may not otherwise have access to.

For over 35 years, HDD’s Artistic Director, Heidi Duckler, has created over 500 original works locally, nationally and internationally, including in many LA neighborhoods such as: Downtown LA (Arts District, Produce District and Fashion District), Boyle Heights, Koreatown, Hollywood, San Pedro and South LA. Duckler’s work has been internationally recognized in Hong Kong (Urban Arts Festival 2007), Russia (International East-West Arts Exchange 2010), Montreal (Transatlantique Quartier 2013), Germany (Tanzmesse, 2014 & 2018), Australia (Brisbane Festival 2014), Cuba (Ciudad en Movimiento 2016) and Chile (Puerto de Ideas 2018). This year HDD was awarded grants for upcoming programs including; LA County Department of Arts and Culture, City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, City of West Hollywood and Culver City, California Community Foundation, California Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. HDD produces over 25 original productions each year and thousands of diverse residents are served annually.
