Position Title: Assistant Editor
Shift Days/Times: Monday-Friday 10-2pm or 1-5pm (Flexible on days and shifts)
Guidelines: Assistant Editor may work with older adults who may have sight, hearing, or mobility issues. No experience necessary. Training provided. A 3-month commitment requested.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Publications & Printing
o Format content into pre-designed templates as determined by Manager
o Print Quality and Color Control utilizing various techniques
o Ensure all equipment is performing satisfactorily
o Print requested projects based on needs from staff liaisons utilizing online project management suite to ensure all projects are completed by assigned deadlines
- Community Channel
o New slide creation based on templates available (created by manager)
o Approval of slides after double-checking content for accuracy, spelling and grammatical mistakes
- Content Disbursement
o Manage list of printed content for cost analysis
o Coordinate with resident teams and Residents Council for door-to-door delivery
o Management of community bulletin board content
- Bulletin Board Content Schedule Management - Daily checks of all bulletin boards (based on schedule) for content removal according on Communications Policy
- Community Website
o Maintain Online Resident Directory based on census data
o Maintain Online Staff Directory (future)
o Add new/passing residents utilizing online form as they’re received
o Implement old catering/room reservations calendars into new online booking system
What can one gain from this opportunity?
Assistant Editors will be able to gain some of the knowledge needed to pursue a career in media and publication design along with the inner-workings of the Adobe Creative Suite (including Adobe InDesign CC 2018, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Illustrator CC 2018); our print management systems (including EFI Fiery Command Workstation 6, utilizing commercial grade Konica Minolta BizHub printers); will also be able to learn how to work with a Content Management System based on WordPress. Skills will also include project and time management.
