The Retired and Senior Volunteer program is searching for volunteers, 55 or older, in Staten Island to join our Veterans Support Unit. Needed are volunteers who can assist veterans enrolled in college with their studies by proofreading essays and papers, and/or tutoring in various subjects especially advanced math and science (biology). Most tutoring sessions will be held on campus but virtual volunteering is possible in some cases. Days and hours are flexible.
Retirees in the fields of education, nursing and engineering are also needed to serve as career mentors.

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
