Docents needed for tours of the Historic Dills Tavern in Dillsburg!
The Northern York Historical and Preservation Society (NYCHAPS) is searching for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to help colonial history come alive for the many residents, visitors and students of the historic Dills Tavern. Interested in education and working with school children? Are you a people person? interested in sharing county history with the general public of all ages? Would you like to give back to your community? Then interpreting our historic sites may be right for you.
All training is provided! All you need to do is provide your time and your love of history and learning! Come join our great group of volunteers
What are docents?
Docents are specially trained volunteers that lead tours of the Dills Tavern property for visitors of all ages. Docents help engage visitors by discussing history, programs, information on the importance of the Tavern, and more!
Qualifications Needed:
Interest in working with people; Great interpersonal and oral communication skills; Interest in colonial, early 1800 and/or Dillsburg history. Self-motivated; Flexibility, enthusiasm, and an attitude of respect for working with diverse visitors.

Description
A living, hands-on museum that strives to give the experience of history while also passing on a history lesson! The work of the Dills and Eichileburger family is preserved at the Tavern and Maple Shade Barn. Classes and events are around colonial crafts (wood working, blacksmiths, gun making) cooking (open hearth, butter churning, etc) farming and distilling. Just as it was in the late 1700 and early 1800s.
