One of our several pigs

Locket's Meadow Farm Sanctuary (aka Rescues Who Rescue) has over 100 animals, including horses, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, llamas, yard birds, and an adorable alpaca. Nearly all of our animals eat hay and/or grain/feed specific to their dietary needs twice a day; however, many of our animals (especially the pigs!) would love and benefit from the type of produce that is thrown into dumpsters in restaurants every day. This is a win-win situation to reduce waste and help improve the lives of these cherished rescue animals. We are seeking a Volunteer Restaurant Waste Program Coordinator that can build a program that is currently in it's infancy. This person will be responsible for finding restaurants to participate in the program and coordinating with volunteers to do the pickups and drop offs at least once a week. The ideal volunteer will be able to effectively communicate with prospective and participating restaurants, coordinate with volunteers, and trouble-shoot logistic issues as they may come up.

Mission Statement

Locket's Meadow strives every day to create a farm animal sanctuary and riding facility that helps to support our passion for rescuing animals from slaughter, abuse and neglect situations, and to give them a place where they can live out their days in comfort and surrounded by love.

Description

Locket's Meadow is a farm animal rescue and sanctuary in Bethany, CT. We began saving PMU foals in 2002, rescued from the Premarin industry, and eventually welcomed horses from other slaughter, abuse and neglect situations. Over the years hundreds of horses have passed through our farm on their way to adoptive homes. Some have stayed and become lesson horses in our programs while others are used for therapy, both mounted and on the ground. Some are unable to work and we offer them retirement, and give the equivalent of Hospice care when the time comes. All are loved as members of our family, as are all the other animals on our farm, from pigs and sheep to goats and roosters.
