Soar with the Eagles Professional GED/HSE Tutors, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that offers affordable one-on-one tutoring to GED students in the Tucson community. We were founded in July 2015 in response to the sharp decline in graduation rate when a private corporation took over the GED test from the U.S. Government in January 2014.

Soar with the Eagles boasts 19 volunteer tutors and one paid tutor, an all-volunteer staff, an active board of directors, and over 40 graduates who have moved on to college and/or higher paying jobs.

We are in need of an experienced grant writer to help us supplement the funds we have raised through various events over the past 2 1/2 years. This position is part-time with flexible hours.

Soar with the Eagles does not have a Center (yet!), so the admin team and board meet in libraries, coffee shops, etc., as do our tutors when they work with students.

Mission Statement

Soar with the Eagles Professional GED/HSE Tutors, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of trained tutors who provide affordable, individualized academic tutoring to GED students to reverse the declining GED graduation rate and to raise the level of adult education and socioeconomic status within the Tucson community.

Description

Our tutors meet one-on-one in public venues (primarily libraries, Pima College libraries, coffee shops, etc.) with GED students to provide individualized support and instruction to help students pass the four GED exams. SWTE provides tutors with baseline materials which the tutors then supplement with additonal material based on the student's needs. Tutors meet monthly for ongoing support, evaluation, and training. Weekly reports documenting students' progress are submitted to the director on a weekly basis.
