Description of job: when birds are ready to be released, this person would be in charge of arranging the release.
You would be notified a bird is ready for release. The records would need to be checked to see where the birds needs to be released, if the people who found it want to be involved in the release, if the volunteer who rescued it wants to be present, etc. Then you would arrange a specific date and time for the release. You need to be aware of where it is releases- is it a suitable place? Also is the weather suitable for a release, etc.
You would also be responsible to make sure that whoever did the release sends a release story and if possible a video or photographs of the release to those who will post it on the website.
You would also need to make sure Raptor Med records are updated after the release.
Time requirement: highly variable
In the winter we may have a month with no releases. In the summer and fall there are more. We release 75-100 birds a year.
Re quirements to be coordinator: experience handling the birds, attention to detail, works well in coordinating with other volunteers
