Massage Therapist Volunteer for Hospice Patients

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: HarmonyCares Hospice-Grand Rapids

If you have a heart for people and would like to make a difference in your community, please consider becoming a patient volunteer for Grace Hospice.

This is a flexible program, y ou can volunteer any times or days you prefer.

Training is provided and you have the support of staff and medical professionals as well. This is a rewarding opportunity for you as well as the patient and family as you aid in life's final days. Volunteers share conversations, quiet times just "being there", aid in writing, music or pet therapy, however you feel can benefit your time together.

You will feel great knowing you participated in another person's comfort. Our volunteers often express how happy they feel in touching another person's life.

We do ask for a year commitment to the program, and require that once you are seeing a patient, that you see it to the end of their journey.

Mission Statement

For each employee to treat every patient as their own treasured loved one, providing care that affords a quality of life that outweighs quantity of days, and supports caregivers as their hearts find healing.

Description

Hospice is a philosophy of caring for patients whose medical conditions are not responding to treatment or for those patients who choose not to seek aggressive medical care at the end stage of life. It is a program for patients who are considered terminal and are expected to live six months or less if the disease follows its natural course, although many patients outlive this time frame. The hospice philosophy focuses on comfort care not curative care. The goal of hospice care is for the patient to remain as comfortable and pain-free as possible in their own home or the home of a loved one through the end of life. Hospice care can also be provided in a long-term care facility or an assisted living facility
