ORGANIZATION: The Learning Gate

  • 29 people are interested

The Board of Directors for The Learning Gate is made up of dedicated community members who care deeply about the community and look for ways to increase access to early education for under served populations. Our board is strong, but several members are retiring in the coming months. We seek community members with the skills listed below to donate one evening a month for a 3-year term as a board member. Board members are expected to participate in strategic planning and development activities, to participate in several events throughout the year (fundraisers, on-site projects, etc.), and to lend their expertise and network connections to the Executive Director of the Association.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Learning Gate is to provide affordable, quality care to children, while fostering each child’s intellectual, social, and physical development in a stimulating and nurturing environment.

Description

The Learning Gate, An Association of Child Care Centers is a nonprofit organization serving Somerset and Hunterdon counties since 1967. The Learning Gate is licensed by the N.J. Dept. of Human Services, and operates within strict compliance of licensing standards. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of parents, staff, and community members.

Throughout our 50 year history, our mission has been to provide quality, affordable childcare for families in our community. Our programs offer childcare for over 70 children daily at our location, 816 Old York Road, Raritan. We provide care for children ages six weeks thru 6 years of age.

Through partnerships with Community Childcare Solutions, The Learning Gate is able to provide full-time daycare to low income populations through dedicated childcare vouchers and the New Jersey Cares for Kids program that provides up to 60% financial support for full-time day care. In addition, through an agreement with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, The Learning Gate delivers quality care to Somerset County foster children, serving more displaced children than any other daycare in the county. The need for these services is steadily increasing and the urgency for quality care for the most vulnerable children in our county has grown acute.
