Become a part of our Family Dog Rescue shelter family! Volunteers help the shelter run by walking, grooming, playing and training our dogs. They also help with shelter maintenance and cleaning.
We only have a few staff members, so we rely heavily on our dedicated volunteers. We need you!
Our volunteers get not only our gratitude, but a chance to learn more about how to train and care for dogs. We ask all our volunteers to take an orientation/behavior class and a supervised dog walking class in order to volunteer in the shelter.
We love having families and children volunteer at the shelter. Minors under age 18 will need to bring a parent or legal guardian to attend an Orientation, any and all Supervised Walks, and sign a release of liability.
Our shelter volunteers save dog's lives through:
Dog walks and hikes
Training and socializing shelter dogs
Transporting
Organizing, cleaning and shelter maintenance
Monitoring dog play groups
Grooming and bathing dogs
Feeding or medicating dogs
Administrative work

From the underdogs of California's overcrowded municipal shelters to the street dogs of Mexico, Family Dog Rescue gives dogs in need a second chance. We welcome these dogs into our San Francisco shelter and foster program, providing them with medical care, temperament analysis, spay/neuter, vaccinations and finally, a loving family of their own. Family Dog Rescue is proud to save dogs of all kinds, including puppies, adults, mixed breeds, purebreds, and dogs with disabilities.
