In 2017, Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts launched a community program called PMC in the Community (tm). The program consists of three parts: PMC Listens(tm) Helpline, PMC Shares(tm) Community Outreach, and PMC Watches(tm) Citizen Court Monitoring. We are currently in the process of recruiting volunteers for PMC Watches.
PMC Watches is a community-oriented expansion of PMC's traditional "court watchdog" role. The program will involve Philadelphia residents going into courtrooms to observe and record court proceedings. PMC Watches aims to increase transparency and accountability in the courts system. Additionally, this program will provide Philadelphia residents with firsthand insight into how justice is administered.
Volunteers will participate in a short training session before they begin and will be provided with a checklist of things to look for when they are in court. The first training session will likely be held in February 2018, but additional sessions will be held regularly afterwards.
