Are you looking to make a real and lasting difference in someone’s life? Would you like to get teaching experience working with adults? Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) trains volunteers to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). LVM tutors are dedicated, patient, flexible and encouraging volunteers who create a positive learning environment where adults can thrive and learn without embarrassment.

With improved literacy skills and the confidence that comes with them, adults are able to pursue a better life and a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to attend a volunteer information session. Join us February 7, from 6-8pm, for our first two information sessions of 2018. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, RSVP for one of the information sessions by clicking HERE. If you have any questions, please email Josh Dees at josh@lvm.org OR call him at 617-367-1313.

IMPORTANT: We have a Basic Literacy Training starting immediately after the February 7th Information Session. The dates for that training are as follows: February 8, 13, 15, 27 and March 1 and 6 (snow date: March 8). If you are interested in attending this training, you must attend the information session on February 7.

We look forward to meeting you and telling you more about what it means to be a volunteer at LVM-Boston.

Mission Statement

Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) believes in the power of literacy to transform lives and communities. Since 1972, LVM has trained volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic reading and writing, and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Description

LVM volunteers help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence.
