Since 1994, Return of the Natives (R.O.N.) has worked with community volunteers and the Bureau of Land Management to restore and revitalize Fort Ord. In 2012, Fort Ord became a national monument due to its ecological and historical importance. We will be joined by CSUMB student Salvador Alamillo for live jazz music while we plant!

Mission Statement
Bringing Nature Closer to People and People Closer to Nature Through Hands-on Participation in Restoring Habitats
Description
Return of the Natives is an environmental education program dedicated to involving students (Kindergarten through University) and local communities in habitat restoration.
The Return of the Natives Restoration Education Project (RON) is the education and outreach branch of The Watershed Institute at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Based at CSUMB, RON helps the university fulfill its mission by providing service opportunities for students and working closely with the Service Learning Institute.
RON's environmental goal is to protect the waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through restoration of the waterways and the lands draining into the bay. RON's social goal is to bring people and nature together on our restoration and education projects in the watersheds of Monterey County from the Monterey Peninsula to North Monterey County and from Salinas to San Ardo.
