International Experiential Learning Volunteers
Touch a mind. Save a life.

Go to Belize and Guatemala, to help train firefighters and EMS workers with our Emergency Services Team. March 11th-18th, 2018

4 THE WORLD’s Global Firefighter Training Excursion takes first responders On Location to communities in rural Belize and Guatemala. Firefighters and EMS team members experience life in the developing world and learn the history, culture, and contemporary issues of our Central American neighbors.

4 THE WORLD’s global learning model is LISTEN, LEARN, ACT. Team members will consider issues of importance in Belize and Guatemala by listening to firefighters, EMS, Police, and community leaders in-country. Team members will then identify a pressing problem to investigate and learn about the issue from diverse perspectives. After assessing the possible solutions, the team will facilitate collaboration for first responders in the US, Belize, and Guatemala to take action and implement a solution. The process then starts over, as the teams listen to those affected and assess the solution, identifying strengths and weaknesses and learning from the experience in order to improve the world one project at a time.

Our Emergency Services team members not only train other firefighters and EMS workers, they learn from them. The cross-cultural collaboration integrates problem solving with global learning in an authentic way.

First responders develop relationships that will last a lifetime. These relationships are mutually beneficial, for the Bomberos in Central America, for the first responders in the U.S. and for the Emergency Services Excursion Team.

*Excursion fee is $750 USD and includes housing, meals in country transportation and does not include air fair to and from Belize.

*4 the World is located in Garner, NC and this excursion is to Belize and Guatemala and requires a valid passport and international travel.

Description

4 the World On Education

Education

Teachers - Great teachers can do incredible things - not just for students, but for entire communities. We believe educators are the foundation for an empowered community, and aim to provide them with the resources necessary to greater serve their communities.

Students - Regardless of how great the educators may be, many children in our target communities may not have the opportunity to even attend. Education always has a cost, and we aim to provide students with scholarship opportunities that allow children to begin or continue their education to become an empowered member of the community.

Infrastructure - Some of the largest issues facing education systems today are facilities and access to technology. We aim to provide students and educators with a safe learning environment, while also providing them with the modern technology needed for collaborative and progressive learning.
