Hope for Hearts is looking for volunteers with experience in marketing, sales, public relations and communications work to assist with our 2018 annual fundraiser gala. This is a two month position starting January 1st with possibility for continuing volunteer work in the future. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience with event planning for a high-profile fundraiser event in San Francisco.
Hope for Hearts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2010 by KPIX news anchor Veronica De La Cruz in memory of her late brother who died while awaiting a heart transplant. At Hope for Hearts, we help pediatric heart transplant patients and their families afford the costs of medical care so that our young patients can have a second chance at life.
Our annual fundraiser event is an opportunity for volunteers with sales, PR, communications, and event-planning experience to give back to the Bay Area community while participating in a fun, high-profile fundraiser event! Volunteers will assist with social media and press advertising in the months leading up to the event, event planning, fundraising and securing event sponsorship, as well as auxiliary support night-of.
Volunteers with at least 2-3 years of experience in their fields are strongly preferred! Please reach out to us via email with a bit about yourself and a recent copy of your resume.

Mission Statement
The Eric De La Cruz Hope For Hearts Foundation has been formed to honor the memory of Eric De La Cruz and fulfill his wish that no heart transplant patient would ever again have to suffer because of a lack of insurance or the inability to pay for life-saving medical treatment. Officially formed in 2010, the Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to assist in meeting the financial needs of heart transplant patients around the United States. The Foundation is based in California but seeks to assist heart transplant patients and their families throughout the country.
Description
On July 4, 2009, Eric De La Cruz ran out of time waiting for a life-saving heart transplant. Founded by Eric’s sister, Veronica De La Cruz, the Hope For Hearts Foundation will provide financial assistance, educational resources, and advocacy for heart transplant patients and their families as they face the daunting task of getting a second chance at life. Eric’s struggle even inspired a grassroots campaign, led by his sister Veronica, to support real change in healthcare through "Eric’s Law."
How We Got Our Start:
Our founder, Veronica De La Cruz of KPIX 5, formerly of CNN, MSNBC, and NBC, has been a longtime champion of affordable healthcare, and her efforts to bring Eric's story to the public eye caught the attention of national news, celebrities, and lawmakers alike, including Trent Reznor, Demi Moore, and the Obama administration. Eric's story inspired the Affordable Care Act's preexisting clause, which ended healthcare coverage denial to patients with preexisting conditions. Today, through advocacy and fundraising efforts, we are able to help pediatric heart transplant patients and their families afford the costs of heart transplants, while also ensuring that no one is denied affordable healthcare because of preexisting conditions.
