The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
You love to teach and to work with children. Maybe you are a retired teacher, and you miss it. Or you have always taught others, just not in a school room. But there is nothing you love more than to see that lightbulb light up...
... we are Changing Footprints, a 12 year old non-profit that collects, sorts, and distributes gently used shoes to more than 60 Indianapolis-area non-profits. We have groups of children, young adults, and adult volunteers come to our sorting room to sort and pack used shoes, which can land on the feet of their neighbors or anyone else in need. It's fairly easy, very social, and one accomplishes a LOT in a short time.
If you would be interested in learning how, and then perhaps helping to show other new volunteers how to do it, give me a call or write. We'll get you to one of our sorting sessions so you can see for yourself how easy and fun it is. In 2017, we sent over 45,000 pairs of shoes to those in need, including 9500 pairs to Houston and Puerto Rico. Come make a difference in just 2-4 hours per month!
