Operation Clean Stream Winter Cleanup: Lower Meramec Park

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Open Space STL

The Open Space Council's 51st Annual Operation Clean Stream kicks off this year with a special winter clean up on Saturday, March 10th! Operation Clean Stream is our premier annual event. Through the help of volunteers, thousands of scrap tires, yards of debris, and other litter is removed from streams and open spaces, improving the overall quality of local watersheds. Join us this year as we anticipate another successful year of impacting Missouri's open spaces!

Our clean up will be on Saturday, March 10th from 9am-noon. Check in and registration is at 8:45am. Volunteers will meet in Lower Meramec Park (4800 Meramec Bottom Road, St. Louis, MO 63128) and walk to the worksite. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

Due to the terrain at the clean up site, we ask that all volunteers are at least 12 years old and that youth volunteers be accompanied by a guardian. Work gloves and tools will be provided.

In case of severe inclement weather, this event will be moved to Saturday, March 17th.

Special thanks to Metropolitan Sewer District, St. Louis County Parks and Great Rivers Greenway and so many other partners for supporting this event!

Mission Statement

Founded in 1965, Open Space STL works independently and collaboratively to conserve and sustain land, water, and other natural resources for the health and well-being of people throughout the St. Louis region.

Description

The Open Space Council is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving public and private open space lands in the St. Louis region. It identifies areas that can be acquired and set aside for public use, and attempts to discourage improper land use and detrimental development. Preserving and restoring plant and animal habitats, which encourages biodiversity, is an important outcome of the organization's work.

The Open Space Council strives to accomplish its mission in the following ways:

Informing the Public at Large
A community that is knowledgeable about its natural areas and threats posed to them is an invaluable ally in conservation efforts.

Advising Decision Makers
Crucial to achieving our purpose is making our concerns know to the political and other leaders entrusted with the fate of our public lands.

Advocating for Proper land Use
The council serves as an organization for open space, supporting, urging, favoring, and articulating important positions in an objective manner.

Acting Directly
In the absence of government action, it is both necessary and effective to obtain private funding for the acquisition of lands for the public good.
