Sock Monkey Class at Folktime

We currently have multiple peer support shifts open at our NE Free To Be Me community center. Peer support is the help and support that people with lived experience of a mental illness or learning disability are able to give to a one another.Whether it be simply playing a game of cards, participating in one of our daily activities with members, or just sharing a meal together your presence as a peer in our community makes the lives of a our members enriched.

FolkTime is an organization dedicated to wellness and recovery for adults with a mental health diagnosis. In a friendly and supportive atmosphere, members focus on developing their personal strengths and talents, learn the skills needed to live with the daily realities of mental illness, and gain optimum independence in their lives.

Description

FolkTime is a nonprofit organization created in 1986 by friends and family of people with a mental health diagnosis. In an effort to break the cycle of hospitalization, people recognized the need for friendship, support and reintegration into community life as necessary components of recovery. FolkTime has evolved into an organization that is operated by peer staff, with programming that is self-determined by peers. Program locations are NE Portland, Oregon City, and Sandy, OR. FolkTime provides a safe environment for practicing social skills, involvement in activities such as art, music and writing, and encourages community independence. FolkTime offers:Companionship and Support, Social Activities and Games, Homemade Lunch, Internet Access, Stabilization, Independence, Outreach, and Education.
