McLaren Hospice is looking for dedicated Veterans who would like to make a difference in the lives of patients that are being faced with advanced illness. Training is provided and no medical experience is necessary.
We are looking specifically for Veteran volunteers to be able to match with Veteran patients. The Veteran Volunteer program aims to pair Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients that have been identified as Veterans. Veteran Volunteers have shared experiences and a unique ability to identify with patients who are veterans.
Services may include:
- Friendly visits with patient and/or family
- Listening to patient reminisce about their past
- Reading to patient
- Respite support for caregiver by sitting with patient while family takes a break
- Assisting with running errands, letter writing
Patients are located in Lansing and throughout the greater Lansing area including Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Mason, Williamston, Haslett, Dewitt, Grand Ledge, Portland and surrounding communities.
