The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is proud to co-host the 2019 Joint Summer Session (NEJSS), taking place June 2-5, 2019. This year’s theme is Urban Agriculture-Creating Links.
https://www.nejointsession.org/

NEJSS is supported by the Northeast Extension Directors Association (NEED), the Northeastern Regional Association of State Agricultural Experiment Station Directors (NERA), and the Northeast representatives of the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET). The meeting will begin on June 2, 2019, with an optional tour of UDC’s Firebird Farm and Bertie Backus Urban Food Hub. On June 3, 2019, we will engage attendees in a daylong conversation around urban agriculture, urban sustainability, and resilient cities. NEJSS will focus on three key objectives of urban agriculture:

* Innovating food production to meet the demand for healthy nutrient-rich food
* Improving public health through better food access and food security
* Introducing ecosystems services into the ecologically disrupted urban scape, including introducing nature-deprived populations to their food source and nature connection

Closing remarks will be delivered by Dr. J. Scott Angle, Director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

All volunteers should plan to be there for the entire shift, knowing that we’ll dismiss them if the need is no longer there. For questions, please contact Pho Palmer Murphy at phomika.palmer@udc.edu.
