Recruiting animal lovers who want to educate children
27 people are interested
Are you passionate about pets? Do you like to work with children? We are looking for volunteers to co-teach our program in schools throughout Wake County. The program runs for 6 consecutive weeks in each school. The lessons are about an hour long each week, but there is preparation and clean-up, so estimate 1 1/2 to 2 hours of time. Volunteers work in pairs to teach the program contents. We encourage student participation with activities and include math, writing, and other skills.
Beyond the classroom there is prep work in assembling manuals and the contents of boxes with all the supplies needed for classes.
We are also open to ideas about improving the program and broadening our awareness throughout Wake County schools.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About Kids 4 Critters
820 Becon Lake Dr, Raleigh, NC 27610, US
We believe that kids "R" the key to improving the situation of many animals in our community. When children learn to REFLECT upon the condition of animals, to RESPOND to their needs, and to RESPECT animals, they will see the great REWARDS of pet ownership.
We are volunteers promoting responsible pet ownership by teaching a 6-week class (one day a week) to 4th graders. Our lessons align nicely with the Wake County Public School System’s science and social studies curriculum. We involve students actively in each lesson and are developing future leaders to teach others! We believe the problems of pet overpopulation in Wake County must be resolved by all of us working together. For that reason, we are working closely with the Wake County Animal Center (WCAC) to increase adoptions from the center, to promote spay/neuter programs, and endorse microchipping and registration of adopted animals.
We'll work with your schedule.
