State Advocacy Day
Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition volunteers at the Capitol in Madison on State Advocacy Day.

We are looking for volunteers to join our committees. Opportunities are below:

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee supports the Executive Director and WBCC staff in carrying out public relations and marketing responsibilities. It has an advisory role and provides feedback on WBCC organizational communications, both external and internal, with the goal of ensuring the WBCC brand is used properly and clearly.

The Communications Committee chair in consultation with the Executive Director selects individuals willing to help with communications in four areas: 1) website/email systems; 2) PR/news releases; 3) social media; 4) projects (i.e., organizational video). The chair oversees communication-related initiatives by setting annual goals, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress.

The current Communications Committee meets in person quarterly (March, June, September, December.)

Development Committee

The Development Committee ensures that WBCC has adequate funds to support our efforts and programs and to continue meaningful operation into the future. It oversees organizational fundraisers and works to build connections to donors and other income streams.

Responsibilities of the Development Committee include, but are not limited to, volunteer recruitment, fundraising initiatives, grant writing, foundation and corporate sponsorships, planned giving, fundraising events, and development communications. This committee should work with the president, WBCC staff, and treasurer to make sure that monies raised are appropriate for covering the budget, as well as allowing for growth.

The current Development Committee meets monthly in person on a weekday evening for 90 minutes at an east-side location.

Education Committee

The education committee supports all educational outreach by the WBCC and works to elevate our profile in the state as the premier breast cancer policy and research organization.

This committee is responsible for developing educational programming, coordinating presentations, finding host partners, and supporting/staffing programs when needed. The committee currently meets monthly by conference call on a weekday evening for 1 hour, with one in-person meeting each year in the Milwaukee area.

Policy Committee

The Policy Committee recommends policy priorities for WBCC each year and develops strategies and plans to achieve the goals of those priorities.

Policy Committee responsibilities include planning State Advocacy Day, "Beyond the Pink Ribbon(tm)" advocacy trainings, tracking progress of legislative priorities, preparing and giving testimony at legislative committee and public hearings, representing WBCC on partner organization’s policy committees (as requested), and as part of collaborative advocacy efforts.

This committee currently meets by conference call weekday evenings, with one in-person meeting annually in a mutually agreed-upon place.

We work to educate the public and policy decision-makers, to collaborate with other like-minded organizations, and to protect funding for prevention research and health programs.
