Corporate Incentives

Taking part in this volunteer programme will develop core competencies of your team, strengthen internal networks and showcase your company’s values in action.

This will also give more junior staff the opportunity to develop leadership, management and interpersonal skills in a truly unique environment, outside of their comfort zone.

The Charity

Street Child's aim is to create educational opportunities for some of the world’s most vulnerable children. We began our work in 2008 in Sierra Leone working with a small number of street children, nine years later we have helped to transform the lives of more than 120,000 children across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal. In 2017 we launched our first project in Nigeria helping children impacted by conflict in the North East of the country.

Sierra Leone remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Our research indicates that there are around 50,000 children relying upon the streets of Sierra Leone for their survival. During the Ebola crisis, Street Child supported close to 18 500 orphans with humanitarian aid and rehoming support. By empowering children by giving them the chance to go to school - and giving their families the wherewithal to keep them there - Street Child is one of the most impactful charities working in the region today.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of computers and/or data inputting

  • Culturally responsive and highly respectful

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Keen interest in understanding and contributing to humanitarian work

  • Very flexible and willing to adapt to the situation on the ground

  • Professional and diligent in presentation and conduct

  • Independent and capable of proactive work plan management with minimal support

We would like to emphasise that this programme demands that all volunteers are sensitive to the context in which they will be working, and to remain highly respectful, at all times to Street Child’s staff, partners and beneficiaries.

Terms:

The successful applicant must be prepared to live and work in austere conditions when required, and to travel independently to urban, rural and remote project sites. The applicant must be able to manage his or her work plan and report regularly to the team on progress, and will be considered a valued member of the team.

A fundraising commitment will be required of the successful applicant, for which support will be provided by Street Child UK staff. Flights and food are at the applicant’s own expense. Accommodation will be provided by Street Child at a fixed cost, and will require sharing rooms with another volunteer of any gender. A detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for interview.

Mission Statement

Street Child provides the world's poorest children with sustainable access to a quality education.

Description

121 million children around the world cannot go to school. We're working to change that.

121 million children are not being given the chance to go to school. Millions more are in school but failing to learn. From building schools and training teachers, to connecting orphaned or abandoned children with families, and offering people the chance to generate their own income, our sustainable, holistic model is all about giving the world's poorest children a chance.

Street Child started in Sierra Leone in 2008 working with a small number of street children. Since then we have helped over 120,000 children to go to school and enabled 22,000 families to generate sustainable incomes so that their children can stay in education. During the Ebola crisis, Street Child helped over 20,000 Ebola orphans, providing emergency support and connecting them with families. Today, Street Child works in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Nepal, and Sri Lanka with a current emphasis on education in emergencies and girls' education.
