Youth Volunteer - Hygiene and Healthcare in Brick Factory

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: STREET CHILD US

Help us transform the lives of some of the world’s most marginalised children and their families!

The Role

Street Child opened the Brick Factory School in January 2017 for children of factory workers who seasonally migrate to the area. Our school allows about a hundred children to remain engaged in education while their parents make bricks. We have also built gender sensitive WASH facilities but implementing best practices is key to improving health and boosting attendance in classes. This is where we need you!

Together with our amazing local team, you will work to promote health and hygiene best practices in this community of about five hundred. By conducting interactive healthcare workshops for both parents and children, you will be contributing towards our longer term goal of providing a safe, healthy and comfortable environment for them to thrive.

No qualifications necessary but we need positive and flexible individuals who are up for a challenge!

Dates: Two weeks in February/March

What will you get out of it?

As well as learning about the humanitarian sector, this is an excellent opportunity to build on your own communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. This will be an immersive experience where you will experience first-hand the challenges facing some of the most marginalised communities in Nepal and our work with them. The country is also hugely popular with tourists so we highly recommend you travel around!

If you are willing to go out of your comfort zone, up for a challenge and want to contribute towards positive change while learning new skills, forging friendships and exploring a new culture then get in touch!

Mission Statement

Street Child provides the world's poorest children with sustainable access to a quality education.

Description

121 million children around the world cannot go to school. We're working to change that.

121 million children are not being given the chance to go to school. Millions more are in school but failing to learn. From building schools and training teachers, to connecting orphaned or abandoned children with families, and offering people the chance to generate their own income, our sustainable, holistic model is all about giving the world's poorest children a chance.

Street Child started in Sierra Leone in 2008 working with a small number of street children. Since then we have helped over 120,000 children to go to school and enabled 22,000 families to generate sustainable incomes so that their children can stay in education. During the Ebola crisis, Street Child helped over 20,000 Ebola orphans, providing emergency support and connecting them with families. Today, Street Child works in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Nepal, and Sri Lanka with a current emphasis on education in emergencies and girls' education.
