Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms is a working farm located along the banks of Deer Creek in southern Jefferson County. Volunteers provide vital support to our visitor services, horticulture, and children’s education programs and special events. Training is provided for all tasks.
To participate in these opportunities, you will need to fill out a Chatfield Farms Volunteer application form (see link below) and go through our orientation process. As part of this process, you must complete a background check and placement discussion interview. There is a $50 fee to become an ongoing volunteer (which pays for the background check, a badge and shirt) and you must also become a member of the Denver Botanic Gardens if you are not already.
Listed below are the opportunities that we will have at the farm this season.
Volunteers support staff from a variety of locations throughout the farm by welcoming visitors, and answering questions about events, programs and facilities.
Butterfly House Assistants
Volunteers work with staff to greet visitors and provide basic interpretation of plants and butterflies, and assist with basic care of plants in and around the butterfly house. Butterflies at Chatfield is presented in partnership with the Butterfly Pavilion.
Community Supporting Agriculture (CSA) Volunteers
Volunteers help staff plant, weed, harvest, and distribute fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers grown at the farm and sell produce at farm stands in the metro region.
Volunteers aid staff in planting, weeding and maintaining native and regional, heirloom, and ornamental gardens and assist with plant propagation, production and data collection.
Children’s Education Volunteers
Volunteers assist staff with a variety of hands-on educational programming relating to plants, ecosystems and life on the farm for Pre-K through 12th grade students.
