What would you tell your 12-year-old self?
Mentor Grade 7 boys and girls in our Youth Education Programs! Welcome to My Life, That's Just Me, Boys 4 Real and Being Me are YWCA after-school programs in Vancouver and Surrey.
As a mentor, you’ll boost self-esteem and confidence among Grade 7 girls and boys, giving them the tools to achieve a smooth transition to high school.
We deliver our after-school programs with the help of a team of intergenerational volunteer mentors. Two young adults (Facilitators), one High School Ambassador and one mature mentor, known as a Wisdom Champion, lead each program.
Our programs offer a variety of activities and are delivered over nine weeks in schools throughout Vancouver and Surrey.
- Fall sessions run from mid-October to December
- Spring sessions run from mid-February to April
You will receive training to enhance your group facilitation skills, leadership skills, and gain invaluable experience working with youth. There is also free First Aid training offered, and a travel subsidy is available.
A criminal record check will be required, as well as three references.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to touch lives and build better futures for women and their families through advocacy and integrated services that foster economic independence, wellness and equal opportunities.
Description
We are one of Metro Vancouver's largest and most diversified non-profit organizations. Our holistic, integrated programs and services help lift women and families out of poverty, provide the best start for children and create new opportunities for education, employment and leadership.
YWCA Metro Vancouver Youth Education Programs need young men and women to be mentors, leaders and facilitators for Grade 7 students during a critical transition in their lives.
Volunteers in our ten-week programs help Grade 7 girls and boys with their transition to high school by building their confidence, encouraging them to make good decisions and promoting healthy relationship skills. Each program is led by a team of two college/university students, one to two high school students and a mature mentor.
