The Retention Team of the Oakland Unified School District seeks highly qualified tutors to support our teachers on emergency permits to pass their mandatory tests. The CSET and CBEST, with their tremendous breadth of content, are often cited by credential candidates as some of the biggest obstacles on their path to success. If teachers are unable to pass their tests, it is possible they will not be able to return to their classrooms, and some children will lose the stability of having a teacher who knows them and their school community. This disruption can affect their ability to excel.

Our ideal role for volunteer tutors is that they are able to help create study programs designed to meet our teachers' unique needs and help them review the subject matter areas that will benefit them most. Are you someone who can assist teachers in the mastery of the core knowledge that is required to pass their tests and go on to complete their credentialing programs? If so, we'd love to connect you with an educator who will greatly appreciate your mentoring support. Our teachers need tutoring assistance in the following areas: Science, Math, Literacy (Reading/Writing), English, Social Science/History, Spanish, Music, and Art.

Having recently obtained a grant that will allow classified staff members to become teachers, we are really excited to enlist tutoring help to support a diverse, local, and passionate group of educators on their path to teaching in the Oakland Unified School District.
