Ride On St. Louis Volunteers

POSITION:

  • Part-time caretaker, 2-5 days per week, to clean equipment and living spaces of six horses, and maintain facility, grounds and/or working areas at non-profit equine-assisted services center serving people with disabilities. Applicants are proactive and willing to meet high standards for top-notch care of our animals and site. Receive on-the-job training and support from professional equine management team.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Promote and support organization values and mission
  • High school diploma or equivalent, valid drivers license with no prior disqualifying criminal offenses
  • Self-motivated, compassion towards horses/animals in your care, attend training/s
  • Workers must be detail-oriented and adhere to task schedule
  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift 60+ lbs and be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Horse and or farm experience strongly preferred

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Upkeep facility or used areas (cleanliness, safety, and professional quality) including stabling, tools, equipment, lawn/pastures etc.

  • Shared responsibility (team approach with autonomous activity) in daily caretaking of AM and or PM chores/turnout/in to support equine health and performance goals and requirements

  • Muck stalls, maintain cleanliness, ensure daily supplies are met

  • Appropriate/Timely communication with supervisor/s

  • Maintain professional demeanor and support Ride On St. Louis's vision, mission and values


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Feed/prepare hay and grain AM and communicate with equine management on care of equines

  • Muck stalls, turnouts, and pastures, ensure access to clean water sources, and turnout horses

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization including raking, sweeping, hosing, and cleaning barn, turnouts, and grounds, as well as tools, EV, truck, trailer, tools and equipment

  • Ensure daily supplies are met and prepared, and assist with or complete hay or grain delivery

  • General maintenance tasks: changing lights, emptying trash, laundry, tack and equipment repair, fence check, etc.

  • Execute seasonal chores such as: rodent/pest control, raking, sticks/limbs, spraying/weeding, seeding, mowing, cleaning fans, removing cobwebs, heated water buckets

  • Maintain pleasant and professional attitude with visitors, donors, volunteers, clients and staff

  • Support the overall good of the program and fundraising events, supply information for grants and other promotions as requested

  • Attend staff meetings and program operations as needed
