Safe Place Program Volunteer

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of young people? The Safe Place Program has a unique opportunity for volunteers to help teens who are experiencing crisis.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Safe Place Volunteer, under the direction of the Safe Place Liaison, will assist in responding to youth who have run away, and/or have been experiencing homelessness and are contacting the Safe Place hotline seeking a place to stay for the night. The volunteer acts as additional support both for staff and the youth experiencing crisis, by accompanying the Safe Place Liaison when meeting a youth in person. On a typical call, the volunteer is assisting the Safe Place Liaison by riding along with the Liaison to locate the youth and then helping engage and keep the youth company while the Safe Place Liaison works to assess the situation and determine a safe plan for the night. The Safe Place program responds in person to youth at the location where they are calling from; anywhere within King County limits. The Safe Place Liaison works with the youth to either mediate the conflict with family and attempting to assist in returning home, or assists in finding a youth shelter where the youth can reside safely for the night. The Safe Place program receives on average 1-2 calls during the rotating weekly shifts of on-call responsibility.
