You can earn money for education while making a difference in your community! NewLife Homes is currently recruiting a VISTA member to join the statewide New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness VISTA Team that works together to end homelessness in New Mexico. NMCEH VISTA members work behind the scenes to assist in strengthening programs through fundraising, volunteer recruitment, event planning, and educational programming.

VISTAs serve full-time and make a year-long commitment beginning February 5th, 2018

NewLife Homes Inc. serves Albuquerque’s diverse community including those challenged by disabilities, fixed income, veteran re-integration, and the elderly. NewLife Homes’ projects have community rooms, computers, on-site managers, service coordinators, community gardens, age-relevant amenities, and food box provisions to ensure that residents receive dynamic support. Community groups and businesses use our community spaces for events, celebrations, workshops, trainings and regular neighborhood meetings. Collaboration with public/private/nonprofit groups allow scarce resources to be effectively deployed to address community needs, avoid duplication, and ensure that we remain effective stewards of public/private funds. Our staff are invested and engaged with over 500 residents we currently serve.

VISTA members are passionate activists committed to ending poverty and homelessness. They are excellent listeners and communicators, are highly organized, resourceful and self- motivated. During their year of service, VISTA members immerse themselves in the community that they serve to empower agencies and communities working to eradicate poverty. VISTA members are excellent team players and are interested in growing personally and professionally during their year of service.

VISTA positions are open to all US citizens, nationals, and lawful permanent resident immigrants age 18 or older. Members receive a modest living allowance of $472 biweekly and support with childcare if needed. Other benefits include student loan forbearance or deference and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or post-service stipend.

Projects the VISTA will be working on are:
-Assist in Monitoring current energy usage in order to develop and fund programs to improve energy usage within housing properties of New Life Homes.
-Improve New Life Homes capacity within their nutritional programs and thus improving their ability to help residents live a healthy life style.
- Improve and expand New Life Homes tenant engagement and activities within the various properties.
- Improve New Life Homes development capacity through researching potential new projects for New Life Homes.

Please email a cover letter, resume, and the names and phone numbers of three references -at least two must be professional or academic-to John Peterson at johncalvin91@gmail.com by January 12th.
