POSITION SUMMARY
Speakers Bureau Volunteers act as the face of the Alzheimer’s Association, presenting educational programs at community gatherings, such as corporate wellness events, public health fairs, service club meetings, and other events.

Presentations are based on volunteer’s experience and may include "Know the 10 Signs," "Healthy Living for your Brain & Body," "Getting Connected,"
and "The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease." Speakers Bureau volunteers are asked to observe education programs, co-present with staff, and then lead presentations on their own. Training and resource materials are provided.

PURPOSE To assist with efforts to enhance care and support through the delivery of education programs

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent the Alzheimer’s Association at health fairs, corporate wellness events, and other events in the community
  • Provide information to visitors and make referrals to Alzheimer’s Association staff when needed
  • Retrieve education supplies from the office before event; return supplies within 3-5 days of event
  • Maintain contact with the designated Chapter staff before and after each presentation
  • Submit evaluation paperwork to the Chapter within one week of each presentation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking with the public
  • Willingness to learn Alzheimer’s disease and dementia information
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Availability to volunteer during the day, evenings, or weekends
  • Possess reliable transportation with current auto insurance
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Positive attitude
  • Support the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association
  • Ability to travel throughout the Greater Sacramento area preferred, but not required

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Days and hours vary; presentations typically last 1-3 hours (includes time to set up and take down)
  • Speakers Bureau Volunteers are required to complete 4-6 presentations per year
  • Attend at least one free Alzheimer’s Association continuing education program annually

TRAINING

  • Overview of the Alzheimer’s Association mission, services, and education programs, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, as well as effective presentation skills will be provided
  • Continuing education will be provided via one annual Speakers Bureau Volunteer meeting and other educational opportunities

LOCATION

  • Office location: 150 Amber Grove Drive, Suite 154 Chico, CA 95973
  • Locations of events vary throughout the Greater North Valley area

BACKGROUND CHECK

Interns, volunteers and contractors are required to pass a background check before work commences. The Alzheimer’s Association believes that engaging qualified individuals in our mission contributes to the overall strategic success of the organization. Background checks are valuable in promoting a safe work environment for Association employees, interns, volunteers, contractors, donors and clients.
