The gate keeper to our exciting and expansive natural site!
- Duties include:
- The friendly and welcoming first face of the site! You are the first person guests see as they approach the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse grounds. You will provide general information to guests about how to purchase tickets, what is included on the site, and what the day’s activities include.
- You are in charge of monitoring access to the site, checking for hand stamps indicating paid admission, and restricting what can and cannot be taken on site.
- This is a key communication post, cooperating between both the public and fellow docents and staff members.
- Qualified applicants must:
- Be friendly and welcoming
- Able to follow rules and clearly communicate rules to others
- Have excellent communication skills
- Be reliable and responsible

Mission Statement
As stewards of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, the Loxahatchee River Historical Society safeguards, sustains and interprets historical sites and dynamic heritage of the Loxahatchee River Region in southeast Florida. The vision of the Loxahatchee River Historical Society is to create a premiere world-class heritage destination at the Jupiter Inlet lighthouse surrounded by a protected and restored Florida wilderness.
Description
The Loxahatchee River and Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse makes the history of Northern Palm Beach County unique in all of Florida. From Native American habitation to modern military occupation, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Reservation site at the confluence of the Loxahatchee River, Indian River and Jupiter Inlet has held a natural attraction for thousands of years.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is a national treasure! The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Oustanding Natural Area (JILONA) Act 2007, designates the lighthouse and its surrounding 126 acres of sensitive habitat as an Outstanding Natural Area(ONA) in the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System. JILONA is the first Outstanding Natural Area in the nation on the East Coast. Only two others exist: Yaquina Head in oregon and Piedras Blancas Lighthouse in California.
The Congressional Bill signed on May 8, 2008 safeguards this treasured site for all Americans in perpetuity. In addition to significant archaeological and historical resources on the property, 18 threatened and endangered species will be protected.
