HomePerk is an employment training opportunity geared towards empowering young people with social barriers looking to start the process of finding work. The position includes basic setup and cleanup for a coffee social hour, with some minor customer service expectation during the event. During down time, the volunteer will work with the youth on employment related conversations and task (i.e. taking the exam for a Food Handler’s card online, creating a resume, etc.). In partnership with Bethel Congregational UCC, HomePerk is an excellent environment for the youth we serve to gain experience and to work with a mentor to help them achieve their career goals.

HomePlate is seeking a volunteer for our HomePerk program to fill in every Sunday from 9:30-12:30 for a 4 week period, beginning in October 2018 and lasting until the end of May 2019.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise the youth during their four-week stint in the program. Provide regular feedback to the Employment Coordinator.
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning before and after the coffee social hour. Includes brewing coffee, displaying snacks, and organizing the tables.
  • Interact positively with the congregation, acting as a liaison for HomePlate Youth Services.
  • Provide employment support and assistance based on the hopes and expectations of the youth during quiet periods between setup and the start of the coffee hour. Meet the youth "where they are at" and help them to reach their goals.
  • Dress appropriately for light kitchen duties and customer service.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Experience in career-coaching or job seeking assistance a plus.

  • Barista experience a plus.

Minimum Age : 18

Schedule and Commitment Length

9:30am-12:30pm every Sunday for 4 weeks.
