Cafe environment

Want to learn new skills and support your local community in a vibrant friendly environment? The Garden Community Cafe works much like a community centre, supporting the local area, but we have the benefit that anyone may walk through our doors for a simple cup of tea, then meet and connect with people in their area. The cafe is located a short distance from Prince Regent DLR Station. The cafe runs various projects with unemployed individuals, young people and those with mental health and learning difficulties. We often find ways to signpost those we meet in need to To be sustainable the cafe opens a kitchen Monday to Friday and needs volunteers to help it continue.

Your role could involve serving customers, making drinks and engaging with our community. We don't expect anyone to have any previous experience in a cafe and this opportunity is ideal training for working within any customer service environment or barista role. We will ask you to work one day a week for a maximum of 6 hours for that day, the days and times are flexible.

Mission Statement

Ascension Community Trust enables the whole community of Custom House to make the community whole.

Description

Through our services we strive hard to make a long and real lasting positive impact on the lives of people we serve. We seek to help people develop essential skills necessary to improve the quality of their lives and of the local community, enabling access to learning, training and opportunities, empowering people to reach their goals, providing a safe community place for integration and social inclusion. In all that we do, we aim to break down barriers and reduce isolation, working with people of all faiths and seeking to promote understanding between all sections of the local community. We have built up a wealth of information from our work with local children, youths and families. We have listened to needs and responded with support and services. Our project has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of children, youth, and families and offered a full range of services and supports.
