Cook a Meal at our Men's Shelter

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Insight Housing

Do you know a group of people who likes to cook and give back to the community? Get them together to cook a dinner for the men at our downtown berkeley men's homeless shelter.

Our Men’s Housing Program (MHP) has been providing a safe and caring space for homeless and hungry men in Berkeley since 1986.

As part of this essential service a hot and nutritious meal is offered each evening for the men in the shelter. These meals are in large part provided by generous community groups and organizations that want to give back to their less fortunate neighbors.

Where: Veterans’ Memorial Building basement, 1931 Center Street, Berkeley, 94704
When: Approximately 5:00pm-8:00pm, 7 days/week.

Note: This is an opportunity for groups only.

For this volunteer opportunity groups purchase and bring food for the meal, prepare it in our fully equipped kitchen, serve the approximately 50 men staying in the shelter that night, and clean up afterwards. This generally happens between 5:00pm and 8:00pm, with the meal being served around 7:00pm. It’s perfect for about 5-8 people per group (more than 10 will not fit in the kitchen), and we highly encourage our volunteers to socialize with and get to know the men during the evening.

Please contact us for available dates.
