Interested in giving back to Chicago's blooming refugee community? Join Heartland staff in assisting refugee kids K-12 with their homework on Tuesdays or Thursdays in West Ridge/Rogers Park from 4pm-6pm. Our afterschool program aims to offer our youngest participants a safe and welcoming place to work on challenging homework assignments, while also engaging in fun activities with volunteers and other youth in their communities. Tutors skilled in math and teaching literacy is needed, but no expertise in subject matter is required. Our participants are English language learners so volunteers must feel comfortable working with youth who are beginner ESL students.

We are looking for tutors who are able to come to After School Program once a week, outside of vacation or illness. Consistency is crucial to creating a safe environment and developing relationships with youth.

Volunteers must attend 4 hour Saturday orientation and obtain a $18 background check. The orientation for After School Program volunteers is August 17th from 10am-2pm. Please reach out at alwilson@heartlandalliance.org for more information and to learn about next steps.
