Using a GPS unit/mobile app to locate the City's park amenities (e.g. trails, kiosks, benches, restrooms, etc.). These require hiking/biking, etc. Create shapefiles for those amenities. This requires a lot of data editing and QAQC. Put the data on the website and create story maps.
You will be working with Dr. Risa Patarasuk and Dr. Yin-Hsuen Chen (UF Geography alumni and City's Volunteer Ambassadors) as well as LaShundra Coley'Hale - Volunteer Program Coordinator and Michelle Park - Assistant Director.
Qualification: Must be able to operate GPS or other mapping mobile apps (you h ave this knowledge from the Geograpgy GIS class. Knowledge of ArcGIS (converting layers to shapefiles, editing, etc., Must be able to create a story map (easy to learn from ArcGIS.com. Must be able to work in a team; willingness to work outdoors and must pass a background check.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department manages over 3,200 acres of parkland with numerous cultural, recreational, and natural areas and facilities. In October of 2013, the Department became one of 119 agencies in the country to be fully accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies
